Honda aims to hike U.S. car sales
New cars, remodeled units will debut in 2007
Dec 20, 2006
The Story
As Detroit’s problems mount, Japanese automaker Honda plans to increase car sales in the
U.S. by 3 percent in 2007, according to The Wall Street Journal.
In announcing its outlook for next year, the company said it planned to boost sales in
overseas markets by increasing production and launching new models. President Takeo Fukui
said U.S. sales would rise to 1.56 million vehicles.
The announcement comes in sharp contrast to U.S.-based automakers that have been seeing
their sales in the United States slide for the past several years. General Motors Corp., Ford
Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler AG’s Chrysler Group have all reduced production and ceded
market share to Honda and Toyota.
Honda is the third-largest Japanese automaker by sales volume. The Tokyo-based company
runs its U.S. business from its headquarters in Torrance, Calif. Honda reported a profit of
$1.1 billion over the July through September period.
The Research
Honda will count on a new product and some new models to help achieve higher sales.
A remodeled Fit subcompact will debut in the spring. An eighth-generation Accord and a
Pilot sport-utility vehicle will appear in the fall. Honda also plans to unveil a new sports car
in January at the Detroit Motor Show. The company expects sales of its Honda Civic to
remain strong.
The profit-rich firm announced plans earlier in the year to spend $1.18 billion on new plants
in the United States, Canada and Japan.
According to The List database, Honda works with a wide roster of agencies on differing
projects.
According to Nielsen Monitor-Plus, Honda spent $744 million on measured media last year.
Television took the top three spots with spot TV getting $366 million, network TV receiving
$138 million and cable TV taking $109 million.
The Direction
Honda’s making a ton of cash, sets aggressive growth goals and will be introducing at least
two new cars next year. We’d say this makes for a good prospect. General market firms and
agencies with specific capabilities should approach executives at American Honda Motor Co.
as they work out plans to meet next year’s sales targets.
Firms with experience targeting 20-somethings and urban professionals should make a pitch
for work on the new Fit subcompact car. The new Accord will target middle-class
consumers, competing against rivals such as Toyota’s Camry and the Hyundai Sonata.

Honda Corp:
I am trying to get a new lease on the honda odyssey 2011.
This would be my 4th odyssey lease. I have priced them and
they want at least $100.00 more then I was paying on my
2008. I think this is price gouging because of the Japanese
accident. I am sorry to say this is my last business with
Honda . I also own a crv.
i went to paragon honda on northern blvd and did all to get an honda crv . after giving them a amount of money now after waitting for a week and a half im being given the run around . now there telling me that there trying to get title. how can honda try and sell a vehecle without title ?. ive had my wife walk and take trains for close to 2 weeks now. and every time i call , its like im no one. is this the policy of honda?
The seat belts in my 2012 Honda CRV do not protect you from sudden stops only crashes. Not good.
i just watched your tv ad for Honda. the trouble is ihe following: the litle girl that is sitting in the middle in back does not have a seat belt on!! i don’t think many people notice this because the majority do not use their seat belts.
Thanks for listening,

we are thinking of buying a car and that caught my eye.
My new CRV is a great car except for TWO design problems. 1) The wipers leave a stream of water in the middle of the windshield on every pass. 2) The Sun visors
do not extend and therefore do not shield then sun from the side. Do the Honda engineers have a fix for my problems? Advance Auto is not the answer!
Thanks, Marvin Best
I am trying to contact Honda Customer Service in Japan. I live in Israel and am the owner of a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid. I bought the car new in January 2008 and have been the sole driver. It has 50,200 kilometers (30,000 miles). Last Friday while driving on the highway, the automatic gear suddenly went out. I was in the right-hand lane and was able to pull over into the shoulder without incident. The car needed to be towed to the garage where they replaced the automatic gear unit.
The car has been serviced regularly at the dealer garage and, as a matter of fact, just had its annual service.
I am shocked that this could happen at such low mileage. It is almost totally unheard of that the automatic gear would go out before 150,000 miles. The car was never in an accident and was driven over only paved roads. There was no warning light, no strange noise or anything. The Honda importer here in Israel said they have no liability and that the warranty has long expired, There is no Power Train Warranty here apparently. Therefore, I have had to bear the full cost of the repair. In my “humble” opinion, this was likely a defective unit and Honda should stand behind their product.
I have been unable to find a contact in Japan to whom I can write and register my complaint about this situation.
I would appreciate your help in finding the correct contact information.
Thanks,
Sandy Sampson

Hi I have been trying to contact Honda Japan to report the way Honda Mauritius has dealt with repairs on my Honda Civic. Following 2 small accidents, my insurance authorised repairs which would involve re-painting 70% of the car. I agreed to pay on my own for the 30% re-painting and slight repairs which was out of the scope of the insurance. My car was delivered with a amateur finish with delay and now, even the doors are not aligned properly. I have been going back on forth for the last 5 months, as they were suppose to repairing it. I have even lost a serious buyer since they could not deliver in time and up to what was agreed initially. I would appreciate your help if I can get the details including email for Honda Japan, to lodge my complaint by email Thanks…
